Civil Right Groups in Arizona

It is said that there are more than 300,000 undocumented immigrants in Arizona alone. This makes it one of the states with the highest numbers of undocumented individuals. There is no organization that offers legal services at an affordable price to immigrants that are facing deportation in Maricopa. Many of them opt to try and represent themselves even though the system is very complicated and confusing.

The Justice for Immigrants and Families Project was started to solve this issue by offering legal representation for immigrants in Maricopa County. The organization represents them in removal proceedings and trains them on the legal system. JIF refers the cases to pro bono attorneys who can plead on their behalf.

One of the key things that they hope to do is to conduct group workshops and give people access to self-help legal guides. JIF will work with other organizations within the community to empower the immigrants and give them support.

The goal of the organization is to make sure that the immigration status of someone does not hinder them from getting access to opportunities within the society. Justice for Immigrants & Families was launched by the Phoenix Legal Action Network.

The legal network provides legal services pro bono to help protect the rights of underprivileged groups. These groups include racial minorities, the LGBTQ community, religious minorities, and immigrants. They also advocate for reform in criminal justice, free speech, and voting rights.

The Arizona Justice Project is a nonprofit group that fights for the rights of inmates in Arizona from indigenous communities. Indigent people do not receive the best legal representation. Most of them spend many years in prison unjustly.

This is because they slip through the cracks because no one is there to fight for their rights before the courts. The Arizona Justice Project represents the inmates whose claims go unnoticed or unheard.

Their clients include those who have been given excessive punishment and those that are wrongfully convicted. It is also important to note that they represent inmates who suffer from threatening illnesses but are not being treated in the appropriate way.

Its members said that any injustice that happens to an individual infringes on the freedoms of others within the society as well. This is the reason why they fight for the rights of every person to the end. The organization works together with pro-bono lawyers and students in law schools within the state.

They also collaborate with investigators who collect evidence and bring witness accounts to the cases in court. The Arizona Justice Project releases a newsletter that is aimed at educating the community on misconceptions on wrongful convictions. These organizations are some of the groups that receive support from the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund. The fund was started by Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey who received a settlement from the county department. This was after they sued the county for their wrongful arrest in 2007. The two journalists uncovered jury proceedings that incriminated Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
