Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin: Fighting Prejudice and Corrupt Justice

The Kino Border Initiative is a binational organization that saw the inhumane way that deportees were being treated when they were deposited back into Mexico and sought to change their experience. They look at deportees with kindness and seek to ease their journey back into Mexico, instead of making it more traumatic than it already is for them. Individuals arrive at the KBI center with little to nothing, searching for what they are supposed to do next.

Some cannot remember being in Mexico, this is even more terrifying for them because they have been ripped from the only home they have ever known.

KBI knows that many of the deportees are scared. They provide support and care during a very stressful time. Many deportees are vulnerable, so having a place like KBI helps protect them from robbery and assault.

The facility is very small, but it does a lot of the people that come through it. They offer hot meals twice daily for up to 80 people and phone calls to family members. There are also resources that will help deportees get established, and even bus tickets back to their hometowns if they would like. The even help teach them some crafts so that they can make a little bit of money while they transition. KBI is truly an organization with a heart.

KBI is a godsend for deportees. They provide an invaluable service and they only survive off donations and t-shirt sales.

Media giants Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey have vowed to help organizations such as KBI. “Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey Make the List of Civil Rights Protectors” is a recent article published on PhillyPurge.com that discussed the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund.

This fund was created with the sole purpose of helping the migrant population in Arizona through funding various organizations. Lacey and Larkin started this fund after having their own civil rights blatantly disrespected. They decided to help other victims who were not lucky enough to confront their abusers.

Lacey and Larkin represent one of the many individuals that are advocating for chance among border communities.

Their fund has brought money and attention to the struggle different organizations face along the border while helping the migrant community. It is their hope that they can help as many people as possible in the migrant community.
